Sandra Williams, a well-respected and accomplished former member of the Ohio General Assembly, served more than 21 years in the Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate. Her leadership positions—including Assistant Minority Whip, vice-chair of the Utilities Committee in both chambers, member of the Joint Committee on Agency Rules and Review (JCARR), member of the Ohio Power Siting Board, chair of the Economic Development Committee and vice-chair of the Finance Committee—have endowed her with extensive expertise in the utility industry, finance, telecommunications, broadband, education, and economic development.
After her distinguished legislative career, she became a driving force in the telecommunications sector serving as the Director of State Government Affairs at a fortune 100 company. In this role, she developed and implemented strategic initiatives that strengthened economic competitiveness and enhanced the company's presence and effectiveness in Ohio.
Throughout her legislative career, Ms. Williams oversaw billions of dollars in budget appropriations and championed numerous economic development initiatives. She was instrumental in passing key legislation that secured significant funding for the energy sector, hazardous brownfield site cleanups, promoted economic opportunities for minority contractors, and advocated for educational reforms that resulted in increased graduation rates within Cleveland’s school district.
Recognized for her ability to foster collaboration across party lines, Ms. Williams has gained accolades for her bipartisan efforts in legislative and business advocacy. A veteran of the United States Army Reserve, she actively engages with various civic organizations, furthering her commitment to community service.
In addition to her public service, Ms. Williams is an esteemed member of the Cleveland State University Foundation Board and serves on the Advisory Council for the United Service Organizations (USO) and the Stark County Urban League. She also represented companies on the Jobs Ohio – Team NEO RightSites Council and the Greater Cleveland Partnership’s Government Affairs Council.
Her previous governmental board experience includes a Non-Voting Board Member role at the Ohio Power Siting Board and the Ohio Tuition Trust Authority. A proud native of Northeast Ohio, Ms. Williams earned an Executive Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Cleveland State University. She also holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Tiffin University. Her commitment to education is underscored by her completion of advanced certifications, including Mastering Negotiations: Building Agreements Across Boundaries from Harvard University and a certification in the Regulatory Studies Program from the Michigan State University Institute of Public Utilities. Additionally, she has been honored with an Honorary Doctorate from Tiffin University.
Our Public Service Journey
We proudly served as an Ohio State Senator representing the 21st District from 2014 to 2022, & before that as a State Representative for eight years. During my time in the General Assembly, I earned a reputation for getting things done by working across party lines & focusing on results that served Ohioans.
Before entering elected office, We worked in criminal justice as a corrections officer, probation & parole officer, mediator & legislative aide — experiences that fortified my commitment to public safety, fairness & opportunity.
My service also includes time in the United States Army Reserve, where We learned discipline, focus & commitment to mission — values that continue to guide my work today.
